Even before a demonstration could start in Uden, on Friday evening unrest in the parking lot of the athletics track of De Keien arose. After a heated discussion with the police, protesters threw beer and they pushed and beaten. A man was arrested because, according to the police, he did not comply with the rules that the organizer had drawn up for the demonstration.
The protest was announced in advance and also approved by the mayor. Dozens of people were present to walk through the village. But even before the trip started, it went wrong. Protesters received a heated discussion with the police because of a number of unpunished torches. Although the demonstration was allowed, the torches and fireworks were not.
Protesters started pushing agents and threw beer to agents. There was a lot of shouting and a number of agents were forced to use the baton.

A man was approached by the police because he had something with him that was not allowed. It is not clear whether that was a torch or fireworks. Eventually the man was arrested. “He did not comply with the rules that were drawn up. The demonstration should not use things that can disturb public safety,” says a police spokesperson.
The people demonstrated on Friday evening, because they think they are being made ‘silent’, including in a discussion about asylum seekers. They called it a ‘journey against the silence’. Eventually the trip started an hour later than planned. The rest of the demonstration went smoothly.

Police with a lot of manpower present
The police were present at the demonstration with a lot of manpower. A cop indicated that it was, among other things, because there was also a different event in the neighborhood. Earlier demonstrations around the arrival of asylum seekers’ centers in Maashorst also led the police to keep an eye on this demonstration in Uden. Those two previous demonstrations got out of hand.
