Football club Berghem Sport is canceling all home games this weekend after one of the club’s youth leaders was found dead in a ditch in Herpen on Friday. The club said in a statement that it was ‘deeply affected’ by the event.
The 47-year-old youth leader from Berghem was found lifeless in a ditch on Hoefstraat in Herpen on Friday afternoon. The police suspect a crime, but emphasize that other scenarios are also possible.
‘Great impact’
In response to the death, the club reports that all home games will be canceled on Saturday. Teams playing an away match can decide for themselves whether to take action, the message states. “This event deeply affects our association and can have a major impact on our members,” the club writes.
A meeting has also been organized for members, where they can find support from each other in the canteen.
