A 43-year-old man from Veen died in an accident on Wijksestraat in Wijk en Aalburg. A passerby discovered a car in the water around half past seven and called the emergency services. The 43-year-old man was still in the car, it turned out that he had already died.
The car was completely twisted in the ditch. According to police, it appears that the car first hit two trees and then ended up in the water. The Genderen fire brigade entered the ditch with water suits. They removed the man from the car and searched the ditch for any other victims.
The police believe that the accident happened earlier, during the night from Saturday to Sunday, and that the car was only discovered on Sunday morning. What exactly happened is still under investigation. The victim’s family has now been informed.
