After twenty years, the police have arrested a 38-year-old suspect from Halsteren in a cold case. The man is suspected of rape and attempted murder or manslaughter in Bergen op Zoom in 2006.
The rape and attempted murder or manslaughter happened on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Burgemeester Stulemeijerlaan in Bergen op Zoom. Although the case is twenty years old, detectives from the cold case team of the Zeeland-West-Brabant police have never lost sight of it.
DNA match
And with success, because thanks to a match between DNA traces found in this case and DNA in the database, a suspect could be identified. This now 38-year-old man from Halsteren was arrested at the beginning of June and appeared before the court chamber last week. It has determined that the pre-trial detention will be extended by ninety days.
