A 34-year-old man was seriously injured on Friday morning when a lift fell sixty meters down on a construction site on the Havendijk in Tilburg. The lift was part of a crane. The man would be a maintenance technician from Belgium who had to go into the tap with the elevator. He was seriously injured with the ambulance to the hospital.

Homes are being built on the building site at the intersection of the Havendijk and Gondelstraat. To enter the crane, a lift is attached to the tap.

How exactly things could go wrong on Friday morning is not yet clear. The lift would have come down when the maintenance technician was in it.

Labor inspection
The man was seriously injured in the fall and was not approachable after the accident. A trauma helicopter, the police and ambulance came to the scene to provide assistance. The building site has been closed and the work is still standing still, so that the labor inspection can conduct research.

‘Afraid of it’
The building site called Project Spinaker falls under the Heijmans company. The crane is also from the construction company. A spokesperson cannot yet say whether it is a Heijmans employee. “It is quite a shock. The emergency services are concerned about the injured person and we are concerned about the other people present,” he says.

The company cannot yet say what exactly went wrong. There is plenty of investigation into the accident.
