The driver, a 29-year-old man from Izegem, committed a hit-and-run accident. He was arrested by police at his home shortly afterwards.
“Investigation by the PZ RIHO showed that the man was under the influence of alcohol and drugs and that he did not have a valid driver’s license. The public prosecutor’s office was informed and appointed a traffic expert to investigate the circumstances of the accident. Also an investigating judge was requested by the public prosecutor’s office,” the public prosecutor’s office said.
On Tuesday, January 14, the man was brought before the investigating judge, who arrested him on suspicion of ‘unintentional infliction of blows or injuries, hit-and-run and driving without cause’.
The 29-year-old suspect will now appear before the council chamber on Friday.
