In addition to the suspicions of the two shooting incidents, where the 49-year-old man is hit in his back and the 76-year-old woman in her ear, the Uitgeester is also suspected of mistreating a woman in Alkmaar’s city center. He hit her with his flat hand full in her face.
Victim on one ear deaf
During the session, family members told on behalf of the 76-year-old victim who permanently changed her life. “She is mentally bothered by this to this day. She also has permanent hearing damage: she can no longer hear with one ear.”
The suspect confesses both shooting incidents. He does not admit the abuse, but the Public Prosecution Service is convinced of that. Based on camera images and his phone information, he would have been at that location where it happened.
‘Happiness’ ensured that victims survived
In addition to these three crimes, the Public Prosecution Service wants the man to be convicted of mistreating two prison employees. Research by the Pieter Baan Center shows that the Uitgeester has problems with his mental health. That might have played a role in his crimes. The OM wants him to be treated for that.
Furthermore, he is charged that he has caused great social unrest because he has shot at random people. “This could have happened to everyone,” says the public prosecutor. “That the victims survived this is not due to the suspect, but because of happiness.”
The court will rule in two weeks.
