A remarkable scene in the center of Hoogerheide last night. A 19-year-old man who threatened to start a fire played a kind of cat-and-mouse game with the rushed police. He kept hiding and then whistled at the officers, then hid again.
It is still unclear what exactly the man’s intentions were. The man was at the town hall with the lighter and liquid. The police were alerted around a quarter past two in the morning. When officers arrived, the man fled.
Hide and seek
This version of hide and seek lasted for quite some time. Officers kept hearing him whistle, but each time he hid again.
Eventually, another unit managed to apprehend the man. An almost empty bottle of lamp oil was found in the bushes. The suspect also turned out to have been the one who called the police. Whether he was under the influence is under investigation.
