Malagò to Mancini: ‘You have to cook the dish with what you have’

At the presentation of the Bearzot prize, the CONI president spoke of the crisis of the blue attack, but also of the future of the Milan stadium: “There is only one possibility to restructure the stadiums and that is to win the candidacy for the 2032 European Championship which would require to have systems up to certain standards”

The president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò, also spoke at the Bearzot award held today in Naples, speaking of the national team but also of the future of the San Siro stadium in Milan: “Mancini knows what to do, he has the pulse of the situation. Generally, if a team does well, you change little or nothing, if it goes less well, you have to make an impact a little more. Unfortunately, there’s not much up front; I was talking about it yesterday with the coach and all the staff. If you go and watch the playing time for Italian centre-forwards of a certain level, go and discover that apart from Immobile, who is now injured, all the others play very little. Then Raspadori is also injured, you have to cook the dish with what you have. So it is understandable to make a virtue of necessity with Retegui and relying on a native, the other national teams do it too. Let’s say that this is the reality of our football, it seems to me that the Federation has tackled the subject energetically with Minister Abodi because here it is a problem of laws, of rules and somehow we need to protect Italians even in a free market like that of football”.

STADIUM CASE

A fundamental passage then on the Meazza, which is being discussed a lot these days: “I am an involved spectator because the opening ceremony of Cortina 2026 is scheduled at San Siro – explained Malagò -, I have been saying for years that there is only one possibility to renovate the stadiums and that is to win the candidacy for the 2032 European Championship which would require having the facilities up to certain standards. The Milan stadium is also part of this dynamic”.
