Countess Eloise receives a harsh verbal blow because she has had a rather inappropriate party. “Making slavery a party? This is turning the world upside down!”, shouts Tina Nijkamp.

There has been quite a bit of criticism of Princess Laurentien’s performance in the program Traces of Slavery. She starts to cry when she discovers that she has foremothers from Malaysia, China and Java and is a descendant of both slave owners and enslaved women. She soon started to take everything very much into her own hands.

Silent companions

Laurentien is emotional because she says she feels ‘the strength’ of those women who have endured it. “That’s quite something: claiming deep emotions about events that took place long before you existed,” writes columnist Ella Vermeulen in the Dragonfly.

In the broadcast, the princess also returns to the row about her misconduct: “If you think about what my ancestors have endured, there is a lot of that blood in me. A lot of injustice has been done to them too, that is now in me. My ancestors are my silent partners.”

How can I make this…

Insane, Ella thinks. “Wow. These words, when you grew up in a wealthy ministerial family, had all the study opportunities in the world and are married to a prince. Case in point: ‘How do I make this about me?’”

“In a life full of tailwinds, receiving pushback from people with a more realistic worldview than you could possibly have yourself does not mean that you have been subjected to the same kind of injustice as women who in another time literally had nowhere to go. Sometimes it is better to just keep your mouth shut.”

Watch party

To make matters worse, her daughter, Countess Eloise, posted a photo of a festively laid table yesterday with the text: ‘Dinner & watch party, Traces of slavery, NPO 2, 7.30 pm.’

Right down to the animals, TV authority Tina Nijkamp thinks so. She writes on her analysis channel: “Eloise of Orange, has as we speaknow a ‘watch party’ because her mother Princess Laurentien is participating in Traces of Slavery.”

‘Madness!’

Tina can’t believe it. “She posts this herself on Instagram. Reallya fancy dinner and a real party for what? Want to celebrate that your mother is participating in this program? The world turned upside down. Making slavery a celebration. So this is what living in a bubble is. TOTAL. MADNESS.”

The post has now been removed by Eloise.
