Pit could be the wrong shade of lipstick or a foundation that just doesn’t look flattering, or even too much eye makeup. There are mistakes in make-up that can age the face instead of enhancing it. Once you’ve finished putting on your make-up, you look at yourself in the mirror and it seems like you’re a few years older. How is this possible?
Make up, the mistakes that age the face
1. Don’t prep your skin
It’s not just about choosing the right product for the base, but about adequately preparing the skin before applying makeup. In fact, as time passes, the epidermis loses elasticity and hydration and, in the absence of targeted skincare, the make up risks accentuating its fragility.
To avoid this mistake – basically, in every sense – it is essential to dedicate yourself to usual routine with serum and moisturizer. For an even smoother and brighter result, a perfecting serum or primer can be applied before foundation: both help to even out the complexion and prolong the wear of makeup.
2. Getting the foundation wrong, a classic make up mistake
Choosing the right foundation is not at all simple: the range of colors and undertones is vast and finding your way can become complicated. The most common mistake? Focus on an excessively covering formula. The result is that the product ends up settle in fine lines and in the folds of expression, involuntarily highlighting them.

How to fix it? Preferring lighter and more natural textures, like BB Creams, which even out the complexion, hydrate and give brightness without weighing it down. The concealer also deserves attention: if it is too thick, especially in the area of dark circles, it can accentuate the same unwanted effect.
3. Be careful with powder (and the greasepaint effect)
An excess of powder can emphasize the lines of expression, even more so if it is powder. It is therefore better to choose a very fine translucent formula and apply it only where needed, usually on the T-zone with a large, soft brush from which excess product must be removed before applying.
4. Contouring and make up too strong? No thank you
Another mistake to avoid is excessively strong make-up or too strong contouring: unnatural solutions in everyday life and again less suitable for mature skin. The dark shadows under the cheekbones, in fact, they can harden the features and accentuate a “scooped” effect which ends up aging the face.
The same goes for eye make-up: too intense make-up weighs down the look and dulls its freshness. Better prefer liquid textures, easier to blend and lighter on the skin. To enhance the eyes, it is useful to define the internal rim with a flesh-colored or light-toned pencil: a small trick that illuminates the gaze and brings out the whites of the eyes, giving immediate brightness.
5. No eyeliner, soft eye pencils are better. And yes to mascara
When the skin of the caround the eyes tends to become thinner, Better put aside the black eyeliner: a line that is too clear can harden the lines and make the result heavier. THEAlternatively, pencils, both black and colored, are preferable, as they allow a softer and easily blendable effect. The brown, for example, it gives a more delicate finish and particularly enhances light eyes; blue intensifies the brown irises, while plum elegantly enhances the green ones.
Green light, however, to mascara. Contrary to what you might think, it is a precious ally because it opens the gaze and draws attention away from dark circles and small signs of aging. The ideal is to choose it waterproof, so as to avoid smudges that could settle in the lines of expression.
6. Blush? Liquid and spread towards the temples
It’s not so much a question of color, but of consistency and correct application. Even in the case of blushes, land liquid or creamy formulas are preferable: they blend better with the skin, giving a more natural effect and a fresh, luminous appearance.
They can be applied with the supplied applicator and then blended with a soft bristle brush, working the product from the inside outwards, towards the temples. To locate the exact point, just smile: the blush it should be spread from the central part of the cheekbone upwards, so as to create a delicate “lifting” effect that harmonizes and lifts the features.
7. No to eyebrows that are too thick or too thin
The right thickness is in the middle. The brow bone should never be too thin or too thick. If it is too sparse, it is better to draw very thin hairs with the specific pencil so as to hide the sparse areas and create a full shape, giving a slight arched shape. If they are too thick, it is better to prune them slightly. THEThe secret is to have an eyebrow arch that is always tidy, but never too artificial.
8. Pay attention to the lips: never colors that are too dark or matte
Lips tend to thin and lose definition with age. Choosing dark shades means bring out the aging of the lips and small wrinkles.
Alternatively, you can choose hydrating lipsticks, they have a creamier consistency so as to also give more volume, and focus on lighter shades such as coral, peach, pink or nude. How to understand if it is the most suitable shade? Just aim for one or two shades darker than the natural color of your lips.
Two more tips on lips: always apply a lip balm, possibly with SPF so as to always keep them hydrated and protected, and apply a little gloss over the lipstick to give the illusion of greater volume and a younger appearance.
