A political majority in Hoogeveen believes that the municipality should speed up the new residential area. Together they call for all suitable construction sites to be investigated simultaneously and not one by one.
“The housing shortage in Hoogeveen is great. We simply cannot afford to lose time by ruling out one direction at this stage,” Gemeentebelangen, VVD, PvdA and ChristenUnie write in a letter.
They will submit the request on Thursday evening during the council meeting. The parties together already have a majority.
A new residential area is to be built near Hoogeveen-Zuid. The municipality first wants to investigate whether 500 houses can be built between the Alteveer road and Het Oosterveld.
On the east side of the Alteveer there is another area to be expanded with another 1,000 homes, but Hoogeveen wants to investigate that later. It seems a little more difficult there to start building.
