The fire broke out in a special storage container for chemical waste on the site along Pildersweg. The container contained phosphorus-containing residues and lithium-ion batteries, which made the situation extra risky. Due to reactions of the materials, some bangs were also audible.
The fire brigade responded en masse with brigades from the region and quickly brought the fire under control. Afterwards, the intervention lasted for hours as specialized teams had to safely remove and immerse the waste to avoid a new fire.
There were no injuries and according to the emergency services there was no danger to local residents. There was a strange smell temporarily near the canal.
