Around half past twelve, flames came out of the old school building of De Zwerm primary school on Dorpsstraat in Sint Maarten. There were no people in the building and no injuries were reported.
According to a spokesperson for the safety region, the building is empty and can no longer be saved. “It concerns the part that was to be demolished. Two-thirds is currently on fire. The fire brigade is trying to keep the emergency rooms next to it wet, so that they can hopefully be preserved.” The temporary classrooms are still used for lessons for the children.
