Maisa Vesala longed for a boost in her wardrobe. He was annoyed that only boring clothes were found in his own size. That’s where the idea came from.

Vihtian Maisa Vesala There is quite a magician. In his hands, old sheets and other recycling textiles turn into colorful and imaginative clothing.

Vesala sells them through his own company Making Sheet Happen online, at fairs and pop up events. In addition to ready -made clothing, Vesala also sews custom -made products.

Handicrafts have long been part of Vesala’s life.

– I’ve been sewing since I was a little girl. Grandma has taught me.

Vesala studied clothing artisan, but ended up working for a clothing store instead of crafting. Then came the corona.

– Due to Korona, the lay -off of daytime work came, and I started to revive sewing after many years of break, says Vesala.

He longed for some refreshment in his wardrobe, but the shop did not succeed in the shops. And the designs or neutral colors of the clothes in the size of Vesala were not inspired.

– I had old sheets and other fabrics. I started making clothes for myself.

At first, Maisa Vesala sewed these clothes only for herself. The enthusiasm made him do them to others. Making Sheet Happen

Somme settled

The first dress was completed, as well as the second and third. The enthusiastic Vesala soon began to upload pictures of his dresses to Instagram.

First, just to your personal account.

– The pictures were very much liked, and people started to comment that I wanted something like that too.

As the enthusiasm grew, Vesala first decided to set up a separate account for just handicraft.

There were plenty of followers and the dresses were questioned.

– It was slowly matured by the idea that I would also start selling my products.

Vesala works intuitively: for example, he does not use the actual formulas, but draws the model directly on the canvas.

– I have very simple basic models that are really easy to customize, says Vesala.

It is important for him to create clothes that can be customizable. For example, the customizability allows you to enlarge or reduce your clothing as your dimensions change or tune into another look when you want variation.

– The idea is that the customizability increases the life life of the clothes. I want the responsibility to be represented on this side, not just the fact that clothes are made of recycled fabrics.

Recycling fabrics from Estonia too

In addition to dresses, Vesala also sews shirts, pants, skirts and overalls. Ideas come largely on his own.

– Of course I follow social media, Pinterest and everything else. You may see some nice details or other stuff that I start working on, he says.

– I came up with something and then start drawing on paper how to use ideas in my own stuff.

These own stuff does not lack playfulness or color, thanks to the recycling fabrics. It takes a lot of time to hunt them.

– I have my eyes open all the time. I tour flea markets and recycling centers. There are many places on the network to buy fabrics. Sometimes they come as a donation.

However, the hunting work does not hurt. Touring the flea markets when he is a dear hobby for him anyway, which also combines work.

– We often travel to Tallinn with my husband. There you will have recycled shops and spotted fabrics to the company.

For all sizes and forms

Making Sheet Happen is an exceptional clothing brand in the sense that its size range is exceptionally wide.

The outfits are available from women’s size 32 to 66.

– It is absolutely essential for me to get some nice clothes, no matter what they are long, short or any size.

The same philosophy has also led Vesala to include custom -made products.

– My ready -to -wear clothes can be customizable for an even better size. It is important that I can offer it to people.

Vesala points out that, in addition to size, the fit of the garment is also affected by the body, an individual model. He has personal experience with this.

– Our proportions can be very different. I have a long back and short legs. The pants will not come to the waist enough then and the blouses are too short, says Vesala.

According to Vesala, there may be other problems in the dimensions of basic stores.

For example, the fact that a woman wears plus size clothes does not mean that she is very long or busty.

– Especially special sizes are difficult to get in the right relationship. I want to offer that they fit.

Color for everyone

Vesala also considers it important that she has to offer colorful and fun to wear for all sizes.

– For example, in Plus Size, Finnish stores offer dark colors and quite basic models. I want everyone to wear exactly the kind of clothes they want and where they have to be good.

There has been an order for such clothes: spectacular models inspire customers. For example, big -pear dresses and sweaters made of recycled lace are good for their customers.

– It is often thought that there should be a real basic model here in Finland. I almost have a more spectacular garment it is more likely to sell.

Vesala has noticed this at the fair and pop up events. His personal clothes are attracting interest in them and attracting the people to hypnotize creations.

– I’m constantly looking for more sales events where I can land with people.

Of course, Vesala is still advertising his products on social media. That’s where the whole company has started. Some have brought him subscribers from all over the country.

Tulle products are the latest addition to the Vesala collection. The tulle has to be purchased as a new one because it does not want to be recycled. Making Sheet Happen

There is room for all entrepreneurs

Currently, Vesala is working full time with his company. The paid work has been allowed to stay. However, as a small entrepreneur, you can persevere that there is enough profit.

How does Vesala react to other domestic craftsmen? Is he afraid of competition?

– I find it wonderful that there are others in Finland who use recycled materials in their work. I don’t see them as competitors. We all have our own views and our own specialty, says Vesala.

– The more we are, the better. I want us to all get visibility and success. In Finland, there has been a strong handicraft market in Finland. I want to bring it back and think about the idea that products made in Finland can be really nice.

Vesala wants to support other craftsmen and has taken their products for sale. The manufacturer of these heart earrings is Neritude. Making Sheet Happen
