Mainz 05: Svensson relies on Dahmen and demands hundredweight

Keeper debate in Mainz

Until his back injury, Robin Zentner was number one at Mainz 05, but the 28-year-old keeper has not yet played in the new year. FSV coach Bo Svensson has now confirmed that he currently sees Zentner’s deputy Finn Dahmen in front – he, in turn, had recently publicly formulated his desire to change, citing the lack of working hours when his competitor is fit.

“Mainz has opted for Robin several times in recent years. That’s why I’m assuming that my time in Mainz will end in the summer,” said Dahmen, whose contract with Rheinhessen expires in the summer. The 23-year-old homegrown player wants to be the regular keeper of a team in the future – it is not unlikely that the situation will now change in favor of Dahmen, according to Svensson’s current statements. “Robin definitely needs a full week of training. And a training week in which he is good. Otherwise he won’t be able to get past Finn,” the Dane commented on the goalkeeper’s question from “table footballquoted. “Finn has shown in all games that he is a safe support. Robin has to find his way back to absolute top form to get back into goal,” the coach continued.

Zentner, also from his own offspring, returned to Mainz in 2017 from a two-year loan to Holstein Kiel. He has been number one at FSV since the 2019/20 season, and his contract runs until 2025. Last week, the Rüdesheim native resumed training after his injury break, but he was not yet part of the squad against Augsburg.
