Widmer was injured in the 3-0 loss at VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday and was substituted. The club left it open whether the 30-year-old could play again at the end of the season. The injury will be treated conservatively, it said. The 39-time Swiss national player, who switched from FC Basel to Rheinhessen in 2021 for 2.5 million euros, has contributed four goals in 26 games this season. Mainz are eighth in the table after 30 games with 45 points. Coach Bo Svensson’s team are currently three points away from qualifying for international business. The remaining four games are against FC Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund.
Get well soon, Sylvan!
