After separating from Jan Siewert, 1. FSV Mainz 05 is entering the final spurt of the season with Bo Henriksen as coach. The 49-year-old comes from FC Zurich, which he took over in October 2022 and with whom he scored an average of 1.6 points in 55 games. The Swiss first division club had recently announced that they could not agree on a contract extension with Henriksen beyond the end of the season.

Henriksen signed a contract with Mainz until 2026. After Kasper Hjulmand (2014 to 2015) and Bo Svensson (2021 to 2023), he is the third Danish coach of the “zero fives”. Before his time in Switzerland, Henriksen celebrated the 2022 cup victory with FC Midtjylland at home and became runner-up. Henriksen took over FC Zurich as reigning champions at the bottom of the table and led them to stay in the league and back to the top of the Super League in the current season.

“We have looked intensively at our current situation and analyzed which type of coach with which footballing approach suits us in this difficult sporting situation. This led us to Bo Henriksen, a coach who has succeeded repeatedly in his career and under very different circumstances in forming teams and making them play a style of football that is equally pragmatic, but also courageous and ultimately successful. “In addition, Bo Henriksen is a very emotional, open and opinionated character who radiates incredibly positive energy and will fit in very well with Mainz 05,” said sports director Christian Heidel.

Things haven’t been going that well in Zurich lately. Had to / wanted to go at the end of the season anyway. B(o) Jemine was on the news
Always spoke in English.
Well, let’s give him the chance. He already managed the turnaround with the FCZ in year 1, thanks to a strong defense…

Mainz 05 parted ways with Siewert on Monday after eleven competitive games without a win, who had initially followed Svensson as interim coach at the beginning of November. Shortly before Christmas, Siewert got a contract until 2026. Apart from his first game (2-0 against RB Leipzig), the former coach of Mainz’s second team did not win a game and drew six times.
