Maignan, racist insults: Cagliari-Milan ends in a fight

The field becomes a free-for-all for several minutes after the final whistle. The spark triggered by alleged racial epithets addressed to the Rossoneri goalkeeper

It ended as it shouldn’t have, and obviously the result has nothing to do with it in this case. It ended all against all, a brawl from the far west that between players, managers and various employees involved about fifty people, to chase each other and threaten each other on the field for several minutes after the final whistle of referee Di Bello.

Sparks

To trigger everything would have been some racist insults addressed by the curve of the Cagliari ultras at the Rossoneri goalkeeper Maignan, who was also thrown at various objects. The Frenchman, supported in the first place by Tomori (also the recipient of the same kind of insults), replied by putting his hands to his ears and at that point the sparks went off with the rossoblù players with a domino effect that involved practically everyone. In particular, a very hard confrontation between Ibra and Joao Pedro stood out, apparently also continued in the tunnel of the changing rooms, where the two would have continued to insult and threaten each other.

Reaction

After the race Pioli clarified: “Maignan told me that he received racist insults from behind the door. It’s the first time he’s reacted like this, so something happened. Tomori also told me the same thing. Certain things must not happen ”. Joao Pedro told it this way: “At the beginning I tried to separate, to take people away. As for Ibra, that’s all for me, there was no queue in the locker room. Racist insults in Maignan? No, I didn’t hear anything, but I was almost in midfield. I only saw that Maignan was responding to the fans and I tried to take him away. I have been playing in Cagliari for eight years and I feel I have the right to defend my audience. Obviously, until something different emerges ”. Milan, confirming the racist nature of the offenses against Maignan and Tomori, posted this tweet: “Today was the day against racism, but we still have a long way to go and we must do it all together”.
