1. FC Kaiserslautern fights its way back into the game after a 3-0 deficit. At the end of the year, the Palatinate remain without points because 1. FC Magdeburg can continue their successful streak on matchday 17 of the 2nd Bundesliga. Fortuna Düsseldorf achieved their second win against Greuther Fürth in the ninth game under coach Markus beginning. In Bochum it looked like a VfL win twice, until Karlsruhe managed a draw in the end. Things are still restless at the KSC.
For the long-stumbling 1. FC Magdeburg, the 3-2 win at Betzenberg was the fourth second division game in a row without defeat and the third win during this time. This means that the FCM winters outside the relegation zone, into which the team slipped on matchday 5. 1. FC Kaiserslautern, on the other hand, suffered a setback in the fight for the top spots in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Palatinate fell back to seventh place.
The visitors were the better team in the first 45 minutes and earned their two-goal lead. Baris Atik scored after 22 minutes, Mateusz Zukowski (35th) increased. After the restart, the 45,181 spectators in the Fritz Walter Stadium experienced a spectacle. After 48 minutes the game seemed to be decided in Magdeburg’s favor when Alexander Nollenberger made it 3-0. But a double blow brought Kaiserslautern back into the game. Daniel Hanslik scored in the 53rd minute to make it 1:3, three minutes later Marlon Ritter converted a hand penalty to score the goal. The FCK was now the team that dominated the game and applied pressure, but coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s team was no longer able to make it 3-3.
Liberation strike for Fortuna Düsseldorf against Greuther Fürth
With the second win in his ninth second division game, coach Beginn achieved a small breakthrough at Fortuna Düsseldorf. It remains to be seen whether the 2-1 (1-0) in the basement duel against SpVgg Greuther Fürth can save him from a possible release given only seven points within two and a half months. The new sports director Sven Mislintat, for whom the game was the first time in the stadium, will decide on this. Shortly before kick-off, Mislintat said on the “Sky” microphone when asked about the coach’s future: “This is not a final.”
In a duel between the weakest offense in the league (Fortuna) and the weakest defense (Fürth), the hosts immediately took control of the game, but despite many chances, they initially only managed one goal: the 1-0 by Cedric Itten (24th). For Fürth it was their third 0-1 deficit under Vogel in the third game.
Because Düsseldorf didn’t allow themselves to be inspired by the opening goal and Fürth acted nervously, it was a disjointed second half. It took a direct corner from Florent Muslija to make it 2-0 for Fortuna (65′). Because Jesper Daland pulled Fürth’s Noel Futkeu’s jersey in the penalty area shortly before the end, Futkeu converted a penalty to make it 1-2 (86th). This time it was no longer enough to equalize, as in the previous two Fürth games.
KSC saves a late draw at VfL Bochum
Karlsruher SC fought for a late draw at VfL Bochum. Coach Christian Eichner’s team drew 2-2 (0-1) from the Revierklub at the end of the first half of the 2nd Bundesliga. Francis Onyeka gave VfL the lead twice (35th/69th minute). However, Marvin Wanitzek (47th) and Shio Fukuda (86th) each scored to equalize.
With the draw, KSC showed a slightly positive trend after five defeats in a row. However, it is questionable whether this calms the mood in the long term. The situation is also very tense because the club recently parted ways with Eichner’s long-time assistant and close confidant Zlatan Bajramovic. The players and Eichner were shocked by the surprising exemption.
Karlsruhe finished the first half of the series with 22 points in the middle of the table. VfL, which has stabilized under coach Uwe Rösler after a weak start to the season, has 21 points.
