Bielefeld (dpa) – Hertha trainer Felix Magath is concerned about the consequences for the relegation battle in the Bundesliga after FC Bayern’s poor performance at FSV Mainz.

“FC Bayern are already champions, but I don’t know why a team stops playing three weeks before the end of the season. That doesn’t serve the Bundesliga,” said Magath after his Berliners’ 1-1 draw at Arminia Bielefeld on Sky. Bayern, who lost 3-1 in Mainz, will play VfB Stuttgart next Sunday – one of Hertha’s competitors at the bottom of the table.

He “didn’t see Bayern’s game and only knew the result from Mainz,” said the 68-year-old, who once won the double twice with Bayern. The Berliners play against Mainz on Saturday, with a win Hertha would definitely be saved.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann reacted to Magath’s statements on Saturday. “Very clever of him, I don’t think he’ll do it entirely unselfishly,” said the 34-year-old after the game in Mainz. “But he should watch the game and then he can call me. I’m not talking about Hertha’s performance now either.”
