Madonna’s adopted daughter Chifundo “Mercy” James celebrated her 18th birthday on January 22nd. Reason enough for Madonna to properly celebrate her child via Instagram Reel.
In the clip, James performs a piece by Erik Satie and it continues as photos follow of her with her family and in various situations. Madonna writes about this: “You really are a miracle!”
“I’m really excited about the woman you’ve become.”
The singer goes on to say in the caption to the Instagram post that her daughter is “quiet,” “gentle,” “shy” and “stoic” and never wanted to draw too much attention to herself – in contrast to her siblings. And: “Always humble and friendly, always the first to say ‘thank you’. […] And always the most responsible. […] I’m really excited about the woman you’ve become. Balanced and radiant. Competent and sensitive. A true artist,” says the 65-year-old happily.

The “Vogue” interpreter also points out the birthday child’s creative abilities in more detail: “This hand […] now creates magic when she plays the piano. Whether Erik Satie or Chilly Gonzales. Hearing you play Chopin in my show every night with such confidence is so exciting. It’s so exciting to see what you see through the lens of a camera. Watching you care for your younger sisters. Watching you evolve into a butterfly. Nothing gives me more joy than watching you grow.”
