“This Used To Be My Playground” was the theme song to the 1992 sports comedy “A League of Their Own,” which even starred Madonna as Mae Mordabito herself. The ballad quickly climbed to the top of the charts and also received a Golden Globe nomination for “Best Original Song” in 1993. 32 years after its release, Madonna has now delighted her fans with the first live performance of the track on her “Celebration” tour.

“I have very fond memories of this city”

At her show at the United Center in the US city of Chicago on February 2nd, the singer spoke about her memories of “A League of Their Own,” which was also filmed in Chicago. She said: “I had to learn how to play baseball in this city.” Madonna continued: “I was here for months! I was pretty bad at first, but I got good at it.”

The 65-year-old then asked her audience if they remembered her song from the film and then sang “This Used To Be My Playground”. Fans were quick to sing along, with the musician joking: “I thought only ten of you knew him. But apparently there are 20.”

Before continuing her show after the live debut of the film track, she made it clear once again: “I have very fond memories of this city,” to which the crowd once again responded with much applause.

“Express Yourself” was also performed live for the first time

The setlist for Madonna’s “Celebration” tour is long. Her concerts usually last just under two hours, in which she performs (approximately) 35 of her songs without a permanent band. However, the 1989 hit “Express Yourself” has not yet been part of it. That changed at the gig in Boston: There, on January 8th, Madonna played the dance-pop song for the first time during her tour.
