VfL Wolfsburg has strengthened on the right defensive outer lane. Saël Kumbedi moves to the Lower Saxony from Olympique Lyon. The 20-year-old is said to compete with Kilian Fischer (24) on the right defense. With the signature of Kumbedi, the wolves also decided against Milan van Ewijk (24) from Coventry City, with which agreement is also said to have been obtained.
“We were specifically looking for a young, dynamic right-back with experience and development potential,” said VfL sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “Sael also fits into the team with his mentality. We are very happy that he will wear the VfL jersey in the future.”
Kumbedi is reported to it for a fee of one million euros with a subsequent purchase option for EUR 6 million in the Autostadt. In a resale, OL received 15 percent of the transfer profit, according to “L’équipe”. The French junior national player is a newcomer number five at the Wolfsburgers.
The market value Kumbedis is estimated at 7 million euros and is therefore a little higher than fishermen (6 million euros). Despite his age, he can already show 52 missions in Ligue 1, plus four games in the Europa League. At the Wolfsburgers he is the seventh Frenchman of the club’s history and since 2000 the second new addition to Olympique Lyon.
