LVMH announces the 22 candidates for the semi-finals of the LVMH Prize 2023

On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the LVMH Prize for young fashion designers can report record numbers: more than 2,400 candidates from 15 countries, including for the first time from Brazil and Jamaica, applied for the 2023 competition. “This is a record number of entries from all over the world,” the organizers said in a press release.

After completing the applications, 22 young brands have now been selected for the semi-finals. They will present their collections in a showroom in Paris on March 2nd and 3rd, 2023. Again this year, the LVMH Prize will be held digitally on the lvmhprize.com website and will involve the public. From March 1st to 5th, the public can also help determine which designers will advance. This vote will be added to the expert vote.

During this semi-final, which takes the form of a digital showroom and a physical presentation, the LVMH Prize’s international expert committee, made up of professionals from the fashion world and the general public, selects the eight finalists.

The focus of the collections: sustainability, gender neutrality and inclusivity

Delphine Arnault, daughter of LVMH boss Bernard Arnault and Managing Director of Christian Dior since January 2023, explains: “The 22 semi-finalists are all driven by a very innovative vision and also show great creative maturity. Many of them place the culture and craftsmanship of their homeland at the heart of their design approach. Eco-responsibility is also important to them, as they use innovative or recycled materials and are committed to a local and ethical production system. The smooth transition between men’s and women’s fashion is another important feature this year, as no fewer than nine designers have created gender-neutral collections. The values of inclusivity and diversity reflected in the selection also reflect the transformation that the fashion and luxury industry has undergone. I would like to warmly thank all our experts who every year contribute to making the LVMH Prize a reference for young designers. The 2023 edition promises to be exceptional.”

The LVMH Prize for young fashion designers is endowed with 300,000 euros. The winner will be looked after by an LVMH team for one year. The Karl Lagerfeld Prize is endowed with 150,000 euros and enables the winner to have a one-year mentorship.

Finally, the prize honors three students who graduated from a fashion school in 2022. The students each receive 10,000 euros and are admitted to the design studio of one of the group’s houses for one year. You can apply on the lvmhprize.com website until March 19, 2023.

One of the most famous LVMH Prize winners is the label Jacquemus, which won the Special Prize in 2015. In 2022, the SS Daley label won.
