Luuk de Jong signs with PSV for three years: ‘Something great is about to happen here’ NOW

PSV completed the return of Luuk de Jong on Saturday. The 38-time international of Orange has signed a contract for three seasons in the Philips Stadium.

The arrival of De Jong was already announced by PSV on Friday evening. The club then reported that the 31-year-old striker had undergone a medical examination and that only the last matters still had to be completed.

De Jong comes over from Sevilla, the club for which he left PSV three years ago for an amount of 12.5 million euros. He had then had five successful seasons in Eindhoven, in which he scored 112 times in 204 matches and celebrated three national titles.

De Jong was never undisputed in Sevilla, although he helped Sevilla in his first season in the Europa League by scoring twice in the final against Internazionale. Last season he played for FC Barcelona on a rental basis and previously played for De Graafschap, FC Twente, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Newcastle United.

PSV has been very active in the transfer market in recent weeks. The 24-time national champion has also been strengthened with keepers Walter Benítez and Boy Waterman, defender Ki-Jana Hoever and midfielder Xavi Simons. The arrival of De Jong is now complete.

De Jong: ‘The choice was not very difficult’

De Jong is looking forward to playing for the PSV of new coach Ruud van Nistelrooij again. “It gives a great feeling to return. In recent weeks I read that many fans were hoping for it and I loved that,” he says.

“For me this choice was not very difficult to make. The club is creating something very beautiful and I want to be part of that. It feels like something beautiful is about to happen here.”

Director of football affairs John de Jong: “We also made an attempt last season to bring Luuk back to PSV. I am happy that we have now succeeded. Luuk brings us experience, leadership and goals and can already join a training camp to Germany on Monday to prepare with the selection.”

PSV is led this season by Ruud van Nistelrooij, who is about to make his debut as head coach. The season officially starts for the Eindhoven team on July 30 with the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale against Ajax.
