Lukashenko responds to rumors about his health: “I’m not dying yet” | News

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko (68) has responded for the first time to the wild rumors about his health. The close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin had not been seen in public for nearly two weeks. “I have no plans to die,” he reported Tuesday through Belarusian state media. He says he had an adenovirus.

Alexander Lukashenko told the Belarusian news agency Belta that he had an adenovirus. “If anyone thinks I’m going to die, calm down. Take it easy. That is nothing more than backbiting on instant messengers and Telegram channels. I was suffering from an adenovirus,” said the Belarusian president.

Adenoviruses exist in different types. They are infectious diseases that are often accompanied by a respiratory infection, eye inflammation or gastrointestinal inflammation with diarrhoea.

Lukashenko also explained that he had a very busy schedule lately, and because of this, the President of the Republic of Belarus did not have time to undergo treatment. “I had to go to Moscow, to Leningrad,… it all came together… But I’m not going to die yet, guys!”

Military parade

The rumor mill started after the May 9 military parade on Moscow’s Red Square in honor of Victory Day, a holiday in Russia. Lukashenko was there, but seemed uneasy in his seat in the stands.

Moments later, he allowed himself to be carried the 300 meters to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in a cart, while the other guests covered the distance on foot. He also missed a dinner with the heads of state present and returned to Belarus early.

There he briefly appeared during the celebration of Victory Day in Minsk, but he did not speak. That never happened before. Since then, Lukashenko had not been seen in public. However, his press service did distribute a photo last week that would have been taken during a visit to his air force.
