The circumstances are mysterious, his family is demanding clarification.
The US rapper Luci4 is dead. The artist, real name James Dear, was found lifeless on February 22, 2026 at a friend’s home in Los Angeles. He was 23 years old.
His management confirmed the news on social media the following day. The exact circumstances of his death are still unclear; The responsible authorities have not yet announced an official cause of death.
Family expresses doubts about the circumstances
In the hours after his death was announced, his grandparents spoke to TMZ. They reported that his wallet was apparently empty when police arrived at the scene – a circumstance that raised questions for the family. Luci4 had been warned in the past not to get involved with certain people. Against this background, according to media reports, the relatives were suspicious about the events of that night and demanded comprehensive clarification. The investigation is ongoing; There is currently no official information about the cause of death.
Speculation on social networks
At the same time, speculation about a possible cause of death is circulating on social networks. In a discussion thread on Reddit, some people, citing unverified sources, claim that Luci4 died of a fentanyl overdose. There is no official confirmation of this – neither the police nor forensic medicine have provided any corresponding information.
Forerunner of Sigilkore
With his music, Luci4 belonged to an internet-driven rap generation. He celebrated his breakthrough on platforms such as SoundCloud and TikTok, where his songs went viral. His sound was particularly well received in digital communities during the pandemic. A growing fan base formed on Discord servers, Reddit forums and short video platforms, not only consuming his music but also actively processing it – in memes, fan edits and their own tracks.
Stylistically, Luci4 was assigned to Sigilkore, an experimental subgenre associated with trap. Characteristic are dark, lo-fi soundscapes, heavily distorted and chopped vocals as well as a deliberately raw, sometimes overdriven production. Visually, the scene also drew on occult symbolism, dark fantasy elements and digital aesthetics from gaming and internet culture.
Within this micro-genre, Luci4 was considered a pioneer by many fans. With his collective “Jewelxxet” he created a platform for like-minded people and made a significant contribution to establishing Sigilkore as an independent movement in the online underground.
Between the underground and the music industry
His best-known song “BodyPartz” became a viral success and received a gold award in the USA in 2024. Even though there were no major chart placements, his influence was clearly felt in digital spaces.
Recently, Luci4 moved closer to the established music industry and worked with Atlantic Records, among others. In 2025 he released the project “Vampmania 3”, with which he gained attention beyond the core scene.
