LTO joins mediator Remkes after a call from Rutte

LTO Nederland wants to hold an exploratory discussion about nitrogen policy next week. The agricultural and horticultural organization previously did not want a meeting because the cabinet announced that the goals and principles of the nitrogen policy cannot be discussed.

Chairman Sjaak van der Tak states in a statement that Prime Minister Mark Rutte has promised him in a telephone conversation that there are “no taboos” for the cabinet. LTO had made this a condition for joining the conversation, which is led by mediator Johan Remkes.

“After this exploratory conversation, we as LTO will discuss with the board and members about possible continuation of conversations,” says Van der Tak. “The concerns in the sector are great and that is why we are taking action. The majority of the sector does this in a neat manner, in accordance with the law and with an eye for social support.”

“I again call on individuals who opt for extra-legal actions to refrain from doing so. The pressure of positive actions helps in conversations, extra-legal actions only cause loss of support and the need to defend the sector every time.”
