In the NHL, we remember the stars of the 21st century.
Saku Koivu, Aleksander Barkov and Teemu Selänne led their clubs to the number one team of the 2000s. PDO
Many Finnish hockey players have left an indelible memory mark on the people who follow the NHL clubs they represent.
In the NHL, the star fields of each club’s quarter century have been voted on. The star fields of all clubs have not been published yet, but several Finnish names have flashed in the lists.
The Montreal Canadiens, one of the NHL’s most traditional clubs, released their own quarter-century star lineup on Sunday. Saku Koivu joined the crowd Alexei Kovalev, Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Markov, by Shea Weber and by Carey Price with.
Koivu is by no means the only Finn who has reached the number one team of the 21st century for the club he represents. Saku’s brother Mikko Koivu is in the constellation of the Minnesota Wild Niklas Bäckström with. There are other Finns Miikka Kiprusoff (Calgary Flames), Kimmo Timonen (Philadelphia Flyers), Jere Lehtinen (Dallas Stars), Miro Heiskanen (Dallas), Sebastian Aho (Carolina Hurricanes), Teemu Selänne (Anaheim Ducks) and Alexander Barkov (Florida Panthers).
The Finnish 2000s have had the hardest individual seasons in terms of points Mikko Rantanen did not make it to the first team of his own club. Rantanen reached the Colorado Avalanche’s second team together, among other things Milan Hejduk too and by Gabriel Landeskog with.
However, the competition in Avalanche was fierce. Big men were chosen as the attackers of the first team Peter Forsberg, Nathan MacKinnon and Joe Sakic.
In many other clubs, Rantanen probably would have reached the number one team. In the 2022–23 season, Rantanen scored no less than 105 power points. The following season, the number of points was 104.
Patrick Laine instead, he did not reach the first or second team of any of the NHL clubs he represented. Laine represented the Winnipeg Jets in the early years of his NHL career. The first of the hockey player’s most potential productive years went down in the Columbus Blue Jackets for various reasons. This season, Laine has successfully represented Montreal.
The clubs’ 21st century stars have been selected by media representatives and selected ex-players.
After the stars of each club have been published, the NHL’s takeover ends with a fan vote, where the entire NHL star of the 21st century is chosen.
