Lots of smoke during a major fire in Boxtel: plastic on fire at BASF

A major fire broke out at the Hemelrijk on New Year’s Eve in Boxtel. The fire was discovered just after nine o’clock. The emergency services immediately responded en masse to fight the fire. The fire broke out under a roof at a BASF building.

Many plastics were stored under the roof. This caused a lot of smoke to be released. Because BASF works with chemicals, a major alarm was raised. BASF produces and trades raw materials.

NL-Alert sent
The Safety Region immediately warned local residents to close windows and doors because of the smoke. A NL Alert was also sent to people in the area around 9:45 p.m. It also warned to switch off ventilation systems.

“The flames were under control fairly quickly,” reports our 112 correspondent. Nothing is officially known about the cause. “All kinds of fireworks remains have been found in the area.”

Corps from all over the region
The emergency services immediately sounded the alarm. Corps from all over the area were called up. Firefighters were called in from Vught, Boxtel, Liempde, Den Bosch, Best, Vlijmen and Eindhoven, among others. Measuring teams were also deployed.
