50 people in the command post, 800 police officers along the course, 6 drones and 4 helicopters help to make the Tour as safe as possible. And the supporters’ smartphones are also helping this year. “We can now know in real time based on mobile phone data how many spectators have arrived at a certain place,” says Carina Van Cauter, the governor of East Flanders. They then read this data together with what the police find on the ground.
