In 2014, the current residents baptized the former Reformed Church in Klundert into a house with a residential destination. The characteristic fortified town was therefore instantly a unique home richer. The authentic elements in this church still remind us of the previous destination every day. “Special people buy unique homes,” says Gernant Temminck of Heritage broker De Landerije.
Fewer and fewer people are going to church nowadays. As a result, many churches close their doors. The prayer houses are given a new destination such as catering, office or living. The church on the Schanspoort in the fortified town of Klundert also received a residential destination ten years ago thanks to the current residents. Their special house is now for sale.

Gernant: “Not that they now want to leave the house, but everything that is special, gets used. People who live in the forest sometimes want to live on the beach. And the other way around. Sometimes you are ready for something else. The current residents are going to take the next step.”
Wooden ceiling
The Klundertse Church was built in 1954 and consists largely of the church hall or a multifunctional space of 130 square meters. “It is not an age -old classical church, but inside you get the church feeling. The six -meter -high wooden ceiling is impressive. The space also has high windows and of course a pulpit. From the gallery, the earlier spot of the organ, you have a beautiful view of the church hall from above. Psalm boards hang on the wall. It gives the living room a special atmosphere.”

In the church hall everything is ground floor and multifunctional. “It is a fantastic house. One large living room. You can live and work home together or if you are musically even give a living room concert. Also for a family with several children or for the elderly this is a suitable house.”
Swimming pool and sauna
In 1990, extra space was built against the church for ancillary activities. Nowadays, those spaces are used as a kitchen, bedroom, storage room and bathroom. The garden near the house is fenced by a thick hedge. “During the Corona period, the current residents built a swimming pool and a Finnish sauna there,” adds the broker.
The state of the church and the association building are great. “There are no urgent things that need to be tackled. Of course there is always regular maintenance on an existing house. The current residents have applied solar panels.”
According to the broker, the interest is now starting. “Our brokerage specializes in special objects, including heritage that was not intended as a home during construction. In the past we have sold the church with parsonage of Willemstad and various water towers. Now we are focusing on the former church in Klundert. These are unique objects that are often bought by special people. It sometimes takes time to find a suitable candidate, but that always lives.”
The church surrounded is for sale for 735,000 euros.
