Jurgen Klopp couldn’t stop grinning. “It’s incredible”enthused the Liverpool FC coach on Saturday (April 16, 2022) after reaching the final of the FA Cup.
Reds can still win four titles
“I’m absolutely proud”, he admitted. The Reds not only defeated their great rivals Manchester City and Pep Guardiola in the cup semi-finals at Wembley Stadium in London 3-2, it could now be a historic season for the German coach’s club. For the first time in the club’s history, the Klopp team can win the so-called quadruple with four titles.
“We still have too many games”, replied the German coach after his first entry into the FA Cup final and denied thoughts of a possible quadruple coup. In addition to the cup final and the league cup success, Liverpool is also in the semi-finals of the Champions League and, as second in the Premier League, one point behind Manchester City, still has good chances of winning the championship. “It’s a dream of ours”said double goalscorer Sadio Mané and was more open than his coach: “We will fight for it.”
Klopp goes into raptures
On Saturday, the performance in the first half was particularly impressive. “That was the best first half we’ve ever played. We did everything right”enthused Klopp and explained: “We were outstanding. I enjoyed every second.” Former England international defender Martin Keown was astounded: “Liverpool were in their own world in the first half.”
In addition to double goal scorer Mané (17th minute/45th), former Leipzig Bundesliga professional Ibrahima Konaté (9th) was also successful for Liverpool. League leaders Man City were only at eye level after the break. “We played much better than City”emphasized Klopp and recalled the rather happy 2-2 in the league last Sunday: “We deservedly won.”
Many games in a short time until the end of the season
Liverpool FC doesn’t have time to relax or enjoy themselves. Arch-rivals Manchester United are already at stake on Tuesday for important Premier League points. Five days later, Everton, who are in danger of relegation, come to Anfield for the Liverpool derby. Afterwards, FC Villareal will travel to England for the first semi-final in the premier class. “I think we won’t have a week off until the end of the season”remarked Klopp: “Now we want to win the next game first. After that we’ll see.”
