Liverpool FC has ended its short dry spell and secured first place in the English Premier League with an impressive victory.

The Reds won 6:3 (3:1) at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and extended their lead over pursuers Chelsea FC to five points. Chelsea had previously failed to get past a 0-0 draw at Everton FC.

Liverpool, who had previously drawn twice in a row, turned up the heat in a wild game at Spurs. Luis Diaz (23rd), Alexis Mac Allister (36th), Dominik Szoboszlai (45th+1) and Mo Salah with a brace (54th/61st) made it 5-1 when James Maddison (41st) conceded a goal -Leadership out.

Tottenham came back to 3:5 through Dejan Kulusevski (72′) and after Timo Werner came on as a substitute with Dominic Solanke’s goal (83′), but Diaz (85′) then closed the bag with his second goal.

Meanwhile, Manchester United suffered their next setback. The record champions suffered an embarrassing home defeat on Sunday in the 0:3 (0:1) draw at Old Trafford against the surprise team AFC Bournemouth after an error-prone performance. After the final whistle there were loud boos for team manager Ruben Amorim’s team.

Dean Huijsen (29th), Justin Kluivert (61st, penalty kick) and Antoine Semenyo (63rd) scored for the guests from the south coast, who moved up to fifth place with their fourth win from the last five games. The Cherries had already triumphed 3-0 in the Theater of Dreams last season.

The euphoria after City’s win in the city derby has evaporated in the red part of Manchester. United had already failed in the League Cup at Tottenham Hotspur during the week, and after their seventh league defeat, the fans made their displeasure known, many leaving the stadium well before the final whistle. The Red Devils are only in 13th place after 17 games.
