Liverpool FC: Mo Salah & Sadio Mane among the most accurate Champions League duos

Real & Barça determine ranking

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané have done it again. In Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Villarreal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night, the Egyptian striker passed the ball to his Senegalese team-mate, who converted it to make it the final. This combination – or exactly the other way around – was the ninth time in the “premier class”. According to a query in the Transfermarkt database, only eleven duos gave each other more goals, including penalties.

It’s no wonder that Reds coach Jürgen Klopp could only award the title “world class” after the game, especially in relation to Mané – he had also praised Salah as the best player in the world this season. The duo has been playing together since 2017, and both contracts currently run until 2023. So there is still enough time to overtake duos that are ahead of Salah and Mané in Champions League history: With another goal, Liverpool would catch up with Lionel Messi and Xavi, Messi also has eleven goals with Dani Alves, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo with Marcelo and Gareth Bale.

Anyway, it’s (former) professionals from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona who dominate the ranking. Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are clearly at the top with 21 goals scored together during their time for the “Royal”. Only Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller from FC Bayern Munich and Kylian Mbappé and Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain not from the two top Spanish clubs.
