Liverpool FC and sporting director Schmadtke are parting ways

Jürgen Klopp has announced that he will be leaving Liverpool FC at the end of the season. Jörg Schamdtke, the sports director, will also be leaving – but sooner.

Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC are going their separate ways in the summer. The “Reds” coach announced this in a video on Friday. The German coach gave the reason that he no longer had any energy. The news is a shock for the football world and also for Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel (you can read more about his words here). But Liverpool is not only parting ways with Klopp, but also with sporting director Jörg Schmadtke.

As the “Reds” also announced on Friday, Schmadtke will leave the club at the end of the winter transfer window at the end of January. In a statement from the club on its own website, Schmadtke is quoted as saying: “Liverpool is a very special club, and it was a great honor for me to be able to work here, even if I knew from the start that it would only be for a short time There would be time.”

“Made a valuable contribution”

Schmadtke came in June 2023 and was previously managing director of sports at VfL Wolfsburg (June 2018 to January 2023). Mike Gordon, President of Fenway Sports Group, said of Schmadtke: “We would like to express our thanks to Jörg for the important role he has played since his move to Liverpool last summer.”

He continued: “He has made a valuable contribution, both in terms of supporting Jürgen Klopp and in terms of supporting and guiding our excellent football department.” Schmadtke also thanked his employer: “I would like to thank everyone – the owners, the manager, the staff, the players and the fans – for the support I have received and express my best wishes for the rest of this season.”
