Zelenski wants greater European influence in consultation about war
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski wants Europe to exert more influence on American negotiations with Russia about a possible end of the war in Ukraine. “All decisions that are made to end the war and guarantee safety relate to the whole of Europe,” said Zenski on Thursday evening in his usual video message.
According to Zelenski, the Russian war against Ukraine is also a war “in and against Europe”. He therefore said that meetings are planned at European level to coordinate views. “The voice of Europe must influence the process,” it sounded.
After telephone conversations with the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and the chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Zenski also plans a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. US President Donald Trump hopes to negotiate next week with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the end of the war in Ukraine. Zenski would be involved in the conversations later. Representatives from other European countries were only informed by Washington about the plans.
