“This is the first village that we are going to build. We are building production villages everywhere throughout the Sail area,” says technical producer Remco Hendriks on the Piet Heinkade. He is responsible for the ins and outs of Sail. The first fences are placed behind him.

“Because Sail is so large, we cannot produce everything from one location, so we have divided that into zones. We call that production zones internally, a village is being built in it. You can go to the toilet and you can pick up the straps,” explains Hendriks. The villages are intended for employees during Sail.

Complex operation

As a technical producer of all kinds of major events, he is used to something, yet Sail has its own challenges. Not only because of the size, but also because it happens in the middle of the busy Amsterdam. Hendriks: “That makes the operation complex. Also because the area is extremely extensive.”

According to Hendriks, to Sail, about a hundred to two hundred people are now working on technical production every day. According to him, that is also necessary, because everything has to be built up and phased out quickly. With less than two weeks to go there is still a lot to happen. “We are absolutely ready.”

Sail will start on Wednesday, August 20.
