After the clear 0: 3 against the hosts, Germany was on Schützenhilfe. Based on the results of the other group games, coach Michał Winiarski’s team managed to get through as one of the best third-placed teams. The only win of the group stage came against Cameroon (3-0), while they lost 3-0 to France and Slovenia. The numerous serve errors were particularly important, revealing that the German team was not really able to cope with the pressure in the cauldron.
