    The jerseys

Nothing has changed in the providers of the jerseys in the past few days. Isaac del Toro continues to wear Rosa, Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) wears the jersey of the sprint best, Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana) continues to collect most mountain points.

    Time for the rain jackets

The weather is not nice again. It rains pretty much in the starting area. Let’s see how this develops in the course of the race. Because in particular in the descents, a wet road is of course really annoying.

    The field rolls

The drivers are on the way and start with a 7.2 kilometer long, neutralized start section.

    Who does the race?

With a stage with 4900 meters of altitude, the climbers are of course the top favorites. With the overall leading Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates), Simon Yates (Visma / Lease A Bike), Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) or Richard Carapaz (EF Education-Eeasype), there are strong names at the top of the list. In any case, with a view to the classification, you will look as far ahead as possible. And that can work well with such a stage. Because that there is a victory from an outlier group seems quite unlikely. It should be enormously positioned and have already driven out a big lead before the mountains. Incidentally, Primoz Roglic continues. After his problems in the 15th stage, there had also been other speculation.

    This is the route

At the beginning, the route still seems quite human. It is steadily slightly uphill, but there are no noteworthy climbs yet. At racing kilometers 39, the drivers can expect the first of two sprint ratings. And after that it gets more serious. Four mountain ratings in categories one and two are distributed over the rear 2/3 of the 203 kilometer route. There is no time for relaxation. Because on every mountain there is a usually just as steep descent. Absolute caution is required here. The hardest mountain is probably the last one. After the first, not quite crisp climb, there is a short phase in which it is practically level. The Red Bull kilometer is still waiting here. After that, however, it goes up again. The middle part of the mountain is really hard. It lasts four kilometers and with a slope of nine percent, the drivers also have to work properly. In a short descent afterwards you can loosen your legs again before going into the final climb that ends. The last mountain ranking (Cat. 1) is also removed here.
