The Mercedes seems to be working well on the street circuit in Monaco. Lewis Hamilton now pushes past Max Verstappen wafer-thin.

Lots of exercise
Red Bull Racing
There is still a lot of movement at the top of the results list. Max Verstappen now sets a 1:13:985 and clearly sets himself apart from the competition for the first time. He is 0.6 seconds ahead of Alonso. Hamilton is third ahead of Russell. In the meantime, Alex Albon is still working in the pits and Lando Norris’ mechanics have also gathered around the car.

George Russell’s new best lap

Lots of movement at the top. First Hamilton pushes ahead of Alonso before his time is pushed down by Verstappen. George Russell was slightly faster again with 1:15.482.

There are the first lap times. With a 1:15.959, Fernando Alonso initially took the lead. Norris and Albon are still in the pits.

Many on the medium
Almost the entire field is already on the course. Most pilots are on the medium. Only Leclerc and Sainz raised the hard. They had only ridden the medium mix in practice 1, while the majority had ridden hard and medium.

Start 2nd training
The traffic lights are green, the second practice session in Monte Carlo has started. One of the first pilots on the track is Nico Hulkenberg, who lost some time after a crash in the first practice session.

The weather
The weather continues to be good in Monaco. The sun is shining and the air temperature is 27 degrees. The track temperature has climbed to 46 degrees.

Colorful midfield
As usual, it was colorful in the midfield, where there is also no favorite team. Lando Norris was seventh in the McLaren, followed by Ocon, Stoll and Albon ahead of Magnussen and Tsunoda.

Hulkenberg with tire damage
Nico Hülkenberg caused the first red flag after 40 minutes of training. The Haas driver had hit the wall in the harbor chicane, whereupon his tire came off the rim. He made it back to the pits but was only able to watch for the remainder of the session. Shortly before the end of the session, Alex Albon caused red flags again. At Sainte Devote, Albon crashed into the wall and ended up on the track with a broken rear axle.

Verstappen back
Max Verstappen was not yet able to compete for the top places. The Dutchman complained early on over the radio about the driving behavior of his car and even after a set-up change the world champion was anything but happy. Verstappen did not get more than sixth place. Sergio Pérez finished fourth ahead of local hero Charles Leclerc.

Sainz starts the weekend with the best time
Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari was able to set the best time in the first practice session. The Spaniard needed 1:13.372 minutes for the 3.337 kilometers and ended up ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin. Third was Lewis Hamilton, whose Mercedes was in Monaco with a major update.
