Verstappen and Ferrari favorites
Max Verstappen and the two Ferrari drivers are the favorites after the second practice session. Meanwhile, Mercedes seems to be still looking and the setup of the Silver Arrows does not yet fit together. Russell was at least close in fourth, but Hamilton was still a long way behind. Hass seems to have made a big leap from last season. Mick Schumacher was a good eighth, Kevin Magnussen was also in the top ten. However, there is still room for improvement at Aston Martin and Williams has not been able to excel so far either.

Practice is over and the drivers head back to the pits. George Russell ended the session behind the top 3. Fernando Alonso is fifth ahead of Valtteri Bottas. Sergio Pérez, Mick Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Kevin Magnussen complete the top ten. Nico Hülkenberg finished training in 17th place.

Max Verstappen wins the 2nd practice session of the Bahrain Grand Prix
The time has run out and it is clear that the best time in the 2nd practice session goes to Max Verstappen. The world champion had driven a 1:31.936 and was able to just beat Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari. Carlos Sainz was third in the second Ferrari.

Incident noted by race director
An incident at Turn 8 between Leclerc and Tsunoda was picked up by race officials. The replays show Leclerc slamming into the rear of Tsunoda, who doesn’t swerve at the apex of the corner. Leclerc raises his hand in frustration.

At midday, Pierre Gasly won the first session of the new season. The AlphaTauri driver drove a 1:34.193 on the soft tire and finished ahead of the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. They were on the middle mix. George Russell was fourth in the Mercedes but like Gasly was already on the soft.
