Sargeant on super license hunt

4:30 p.m

Start 2nd training

The traffic lights are green, the start of the 2nd training session in São Paulo, SP has taken place. The first drivers are already on the track.

16:27

The weather

So far it is dry in Brazil and no showers are expected during the 2nd practice session. The track temperature is 47 degrees, the air temperature is 25 degrees.

16:24

Sargeant at the Williams

Due to the fact that the second practice only plays a small role, Williams driver Alex Albon has to hand over his cockpit to Logan Sargeant. The American is considered the big candidate for the second Williams cockpit, but still has to bring in a few super license points. They should come together through training sessions and a good result at the Formula 2 finale in Abu Dhabi.

16:18

Long runs in focus

As usual, the 2nd training session on a sprint weekend should not be very exciting. Since qualifying has already taken place, the votes are frozen and only minimal changes to the setup are possible.

16:12

Beaten Schumacher

Mick Schumacher also experienced a debacle on Friday. While Kevin Magnussen celebrates pole with exuberance, his teammate is at the end of the field. In view of the contract situation for 2023, not a really constructive picture. The German was significantly worse than Magnussen in his final run in Q1 and then admitted that he underestimated the grip on the softs. After all, Sebastian Vettel went into Q2.

16:07

Ferrari cuts a bad figure

While Magnussen’s crew was able to celebrate, Ferrari didn’t do well in qualifying. After making a big mistake in Q1 and wasting a lot of time during a pit stop, Charles Leclerc gambled away a better position in Q3. While all other drivers drove out on the soft, Leclerc was sent onto the track on the intermediate. When they wanted to correct the mistake, the rain finally came and Leclerc is only tenth.

15:59

Surprise by Magnussen

Yesterday’s qualifying for the sprint ended with a big surprise: Kevin Magnussen was ahead in the rain poker and took pole. It was the first pole position in Formula 1 for the Dane and the Haas team. Magnussen was the first driver to take to the track in Q3 and set a strong time of 1:11.674 minutes, which was two tenths faster than Max Verstappen. Red flags soon followed as George Russell went off at Turn 4 and dug into the gravel trap. An interruption in which the rain got heavier and heavier. When the session was released again, only Pérez and Hamilton rode out again on the intermediate, but otherwise it stayed quiet and the sensational pole was set early on.

Warm welcome!

The second day of the penultimate Formula 1 weekend in Brazil begins with the 2nd practice session at 4:30 p.m.
