Live ticker FC Bayern Munich – RB Leipzig (Bundesliga 2023/2024, 23rd matchday)

RB Leipzig is currently undefeated against FC Bayern Munich for four competitive games (W2 D2), longer than any other current Bundesliga team against the Munich team at the moment. The Saxons won the last two competitive away games in Munich (BL & Supercup) – only Real Madrid managed more consecutive away wins at FC Bayern in professional football from 2014 to 2018 (3).

FC Bayern recently lost three competitive games in a row – the last time that happened to the Munich team was in May 2015 under Pep Guardiola. The last time Bayern lost more competitive games in a row was in 1991, when Sören Lerby replaced Jupp Heynckes as coach (4).

FC Bayern only got six points on the first five matchdays of the second half of the season in the Bundesliga – it is Bayern’s weakest interim result in the second half of the season in 15 years. In 2008/09 under Jürgen Klinsmann there were only four points on the first five match days of the second half of the season.

After 22 matchdays, FC Bayern is eight points behind league leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen – since the introduction of the 3-point rating, such a deficit has never been made up so late in a Bundesliga season.

RB Leipzig have won just one of their last six Bundesliga away games (D2 L3) – 3-2 at Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of December. Across all competitions, the Saxons have been without a clean sheet for 11 away games – there have only been 12 consecutive away games without a clean sheet since being promoted to the BL from November 2016 to May 2017.

FC Bayern Munich scored the most headed goals this Bundesliga season (13), RB Leipzig the second most (10). The Munich team, along with TSG Hoffenheim, also conceded the fewest header goals (2), while Leipzig’s eight header goals conceded are only bettered by three teams.

FC Bayern’s Harry Kane took the most shots in the league (93), Leipzig’s Loïs Openda the second most (84). Kane also scored the most goals in the league (25), Openda the third most (16) after Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy (18).

RB Leipzig’s Loïs Openda scored 16 goals in his first 22 Bundesliga games, more than any player has ever scored in his first 22 BL games for the Saxons. He recently scored in five BL games in a row – only Timo Werner managed a longer series for RB at the end of 2019, who scored in seven appearances in a row.

FC Bayern’s Harry Kane scored 25 goals in his first 22 Bundesliga games – no other player in BL history needed so few games to score his first 25 BL goals. At home against Leipzig he played his first competitive game for FC Bayern in the Supercup (0-3) in August 2023.

FC Bayern’s Dayot Upamecano was sent off in his last two competitive games – twice as many as in his first 104 competitive games for FCB (1). Of all Bayern regulars (at least 1000 minutes), he has the best tackle rate (60%) and the best pass rate (93%) this BL season.
