Skater Esther Kiel finished second in the first competition of the mass start at the World Cup in Obihiro. The 27-year-old marathon skater from Bloemendaal only had to tolerate the Canadian Ivanie Blondin on Friday.
The Dutch skaters took bronze in the team pursuit at the World Cup competitions in Obihiro. The trio of Kiel, Joy Beune and Reina Anema set the third fastest time with 3.01.29 behind the winning team of Japan and world champion Canada.
The Dutch women, just like the men who previously finished fifth, rode with an occasional setup. Marijke Groenewoud and Irene Schouten (Hoogkarspel), permanent fixtures in the team pursuit, will skip the World Cup race in Japan.
