There is no praise on social media for the implementation of Yle Radio Suomen’s new afternoon program.

Several changes have been made to Yle’s radio channels due to the savings required by the parliamentary working group. OUTI LAKE

Yle Radio Finland started a new afternoon program on Monday.

Anna Sirén hosted by Radio Suomi near you – program combines local and national shares.

Before the start of the program, it was announced that 70 percent of the speech content in the new afternoon program will be provincial. The program announcement said that all 18 provinces of Finland will be covered.

– In practice, this means 18 separate, simultaneous broadcast windows, which means that in each province, the issues of that region are heard. Radio Suomi near you -programme therefore sounds unique in different parts of Finland – as the name implies, close-by, described the editorial manager of local news Aki Karjalainen Yle’s announcement.

News program Yle Radio Suomen on Facebook those who commented are not satisfied with the new implementation. Many criticize the implementation of the local sections of their own region and, for example, their repetition.

– Yes, it started nicely; Radio Suomi near you, Lapland – and Rovaniemi is hearing some Ylivieska Kela taxi stories and interviews were done last week. Not like this. Where did that regionalism – here and now – really disappear? one asks.

– There were the same stories about Päijät-Häme two or three times and one story about Kanta-Häme twice

– I heard Päijät-Hämetta from Pirkanmaa as well, one informs.

– You and yours are running out of regional broadcasts. A few minutes come at once and are cut off again. Then we should go back to regional news. Even now the transmission was interrupted. They went there too. Nothing will come of this. Can you come for an hour continuously from the area and then talk about “some Rovaniemi kirppar” again? I think I’ll close the whole thing, one writes.

– Was this advertised regional share disappointing? Uusimaa: 2-minute clips and the same thing many times!! Is it true that there is no other “news” from Uusimaa than the Vantaa tram. If the opinion of the listeners has an impact, I hope that the entire regional production will come in one clip and not in 2-minute clips.

Among the comments was one “good Anna” wish. Otherwise, the commentators focused on criticizing the reforms that took place on Yle’s radio channels.

– So we had our own provincial radios and afternoons. Then they were removed and now restored… so what a reform…

– This is just gibberish, as you might have guessed. Who’s listening to this? Regional morning radios played an important role, including traffic reports and so on. Keep your jacks.

– Yle’s line in these reforms is absolutely endless. Clippers swing recklessly on radio channels. Let’s cut from there and add it here. Reminds me of the continuation of the silly quilt…

– It wasn’t a strange change, the listening boycott likes it. If only you could still decide for yourself whether to pay Yle tax or not, one ponders.

The austerity measures hit regional radio stations

Several changes have been made to Yle’s radio channels this year. For example, regional morning broadcasts ended at the end of August.

Since September, it has been heard nationally Radio Suomen morning – program hosted by Sanna Pirkkalainen and Matti Ylönen. In the mornings, on the other hand, they are heard Koko Finland radio program hosted by Samuli Aaltonen and Pauliina Puurila.

Radio Suomen’s morning broadcasts will feature presenters from September 1

The background is the savings required by the parliamentary working group, which in practice mean an adjustment of 66 million euros in the years 2025–2027.

Yle’s editor-in-chief Panu Pokkinen tells Abovehow significant savings can be made with changes in the regional broadcasting flow and ensure provincial broadcasting as required by the parliamentary working group.

– At Paikallisuuti, the staff as a whole has decreased by dozens of people, there are about 15 percent fewer employees than in the regional organization before the change. For example, the number of radio presenters has decreased by a couple of ten. The focus of operations has been shifted to news operations, states Pokkinen at Yel.
