The individual time trial of Loudenvielle to Peyragudes becomes a nerve thriller for the German tour hope Florian Lipowitz. In the end it will be very scarce.
Florian Lipowitz continues to convince at the Tour de France – but briefly missed the podium during mountain time trials on the 13th stage. The German from Team Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe finished fourth on the section from Loudenvielle to Peyragudes, faster than he was only a trio around the tour of Tadej Pogačar over the 10.9 kilometers, which drove the fastest time ahead of Jonas Vingegaard and Primož Roglič.
Germany’s hopeful Lipowitz hope showed another top performance and was now approaching the third place in the overall ranking. The 24-year-old Swabian needed 1:56 minutes more than Pogačar, only six seconds separate him from the Belgian Remco Evenepoel.
For world champion Pogačar it is already the fourth stage win on this tour. Already on Thursday he had clearly won the climbing show up to Hautacam and recaptured the yellow jersey.
In the overall ranking, Pogačar now leads with a lead of 4:07 minutes before Vingegaard and with 7:24 minutes ahead of Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel from Belgium. Tour debutant Lipowitz remains fourth in the overall classification. However, he only has six seconds behind Evenepoel.
The third and last high mountain stage in the Pyrenees is on Saturday. The 14th daily section promises a lot of spectacle again. The racing drivers have to cope with 4,950 vertical meters at a distance of 182.6 kilometers between Pau and the mountain arrival in the Luchon Superbagnères ski area-it is the greatest challenge of the tour of France to date. After 36 years, the destination returns to the tour program. On this stage, the professionals also have to go up to the legendary Col du Tourmalet.
