Lions too strong for Bevo in handball derby | 1Limburg

Kembit-Lions have won in the handball derby against Herpertz Bevo Hc. The team from Sittard-Geleen was clearly the strongest in its own sports hall against the team from Panningen: 38-23.

With the win, Kembit-Lions remains in the race for a place in the play-offs for the national title. There is only a theoretical chance for the play-offs for Bevo.

Both teams were evenly matched in the early stages. That changed after ten minutes. Then Christoph Jauernik’s team managed to take a number of points lead for the first time: 9-5. After that, the difference remained around four points for a few minutes. In the last ten minutes before half-time, Lions managed to widen the gap. In the end, the team from Sittard-Geleen led 19-11.

Lions continued to score in the second half. Bevo, led by interim coach Danny van Katwijk, was unable to turn the game around. The difference quickly became more than ten points and the game was over. Lions eventually won the derby 38-23.

Lions remain in third place in the HandbalNL League due to the victory. Leader Volendam and number two Aalsmeer both won their matches. Volendam now has 14 points, Aalsmeer 12 points and Lions is 11 points due to the derby victory. Next week Lions will play the important game against Aalsmeer in the battle for second place. Only the numbers one and two can compete for the national title in the play-offs.
