Lindemann off the hook? Berlin public prosecutor’s office closes proceedings against Rammstein singers

Till Lindemann has one less worry: the Berlin public prosecutor’s office has stopped its investigations against the 60-year-old due to a lack of evidence. As the authority announced, the evaluation of the evidence did not result in sufficient suspicion for alleged sexual offenses. The criminal charges were filed in June by uninvolved third parties. The lawyers of the Rammstein singer, who was charged with serious allegations of abuse, shared the decision of the public prosecutor’s office and also announced that they would continue to take civil action against “inadmissible representations” and “illegal reports of suspicions”.

The previous investigations referred to paragraph 177 of the penal code. It regulates sexual assault, sexual coercion and rape. The authority has now announced that there is no evidence to support the allegation that Lindemann administered KO drops to young women or sexually exploited them.

Countless women have made reports through the media that they have been abused. The Rammstein camp rejected the allegations from the start. According to the reports, women were recruited for the so-called “Row Zero” before Rammstein concerts, in order to then be presented to the singer. Some of these women spoke of abusive behavior after these concerts.

Rammstein and Till Lindemann have not yet commented on the results of the Berlin public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday afternoon (August 29), not even on social media, where they have published a number of statements since the allegations became known.

Rammstein – what’s next?

The Rammstein tour ended on August 5th, 2023 with a stadium appearance in Brussels. Whether the band will go on a concert tour in the coming year is just as unclear as the musical future of the group in the studio – after the serious allegations of abuse against singer Till Lindemann, the future of the Berliners is in the stars.

For Lindemann himself, this year the “Lindemann” project will continue very soon, i.e. solo. His European tour begins on November 8th in Leipzig (where he performs in the city’s largest arena) and ends on December 20th in the Accor Arena in Paris, which is no less impressive because of its size. There have been isolated calls for the Lindemann shows to be banned.

However, his next appearance will not take place on European soil, but in the USA. The 60-year-old was booked for the “Blue Ridge Rock Fest” in Virginia, USA, at the International Raceway. He is advertised there as “Voice of Rammstein”, maybe he is not known enough under his own name in the USA, and with an “Exclusive United States Performance”. He is named seventh in the lineup, after Slipknot, Pantera, Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Limp Bizkit and Evanescence.

What is certain is that the Americans have also reported on the allegations of abuse, but the issue has made far fewer waves than in the homeland of the controversial frontman. Lindemann will appear on the Friday of the festival at “America’s Largest Rock and Metal Gathering”, as the self-promotion says, and will be the headliner of the festival evening, at least on this one of several stages. The fact that he addresses the massive allegations against him in the USA, whether through silent rhymes or inappropriate mocking of his own song lyrics, is ruled out.

Till Lindemann last performed on December 2nd, 2022 in Toluca, Mexico. The setlist, including controversial songs like “Praise Abort” and “I Hate Children”, was as follows:

Skills in Pills
Fat
I don’t know it
omnivore
gag
golden shower
blood
Praise abortion
I’d love to
rubber
Stand up
i hate children
Who Knows (Instrumental)
